Manchester United vs Bournemouth player ratings: Mason Greenwood shines as Red Devils thrash Cherries

The teenager hit a double at Old Trafford as the Red Devils moved up to fourth

Mason Greenwood’s potential is now being realised after a stunning double inspired Manchester United past AFC Bournemouth.

The teenager is relishing the opportunities handed to him by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer right now.

And with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes also on the scoresheet, the Norwegian has his side right where they want to be in search of a top four finish in the Premier League.

Bournemouth meanwhile, despite Junior Stanislas’ opener, look to be heading for the Championship.

Manchester United player ratings

David de Gea – 5. Beaten at his near post, albeit at close quarters. Several passes out put his team under pressure.

Aaron Wan Bissaka – 7. Good option to stretch the game wide, defended as well as ever.

Victor Lindelof – 7. Provided a surprise forward run at times. Dealt easily with King but was subbed at the break.

Harry Maguire – 4. Poor for the opening goal, gave possession away in dangerous areas multiple times. Not his best outing.

Luke Shaw – 7. Did a lot of good off-the-ball work to open up Bournemouth’s defence.

Nemanja Matic – 6. Good in the first half in possession but didn’t protect against the counter-attack at all and a poor pass led to Bournemouth’s penalty.

Paul Pogba – 7. Classy on the ball. Strong in one-on-ones. Kept finding space to pass into despite a crowded final third.

Mason Greenwood – 9. Man of the match. Two quality goals, lots of clever movement, plenty of hard work and an impact whether he was on either side or through the middle.

Bruno Fernandes – 9. Not often he scores but is overshadowed. Kept everything moving well, created two, too clever for the away team’s midfield.

Marcus Rashford – 7. Scored and had another ruled out. Lots of running, interchanging of positions.

Anthony Martial – 7. Similar to Rashford with movement and impact, but his goal was a fantastic strike, maybe the best of the day.

Bournemouth player ratings

Aaron Ramsdale – 5. Not strong enough hands for at least two goals and questionable positional work for Fernandes’ free-kick.

Adam Smith – 4. Handball was an instinctive, but costly, mistake. Didn’t get forward and couldn’t stop United’s attacks down the wings.

Nathan Ake – 6. Made blocks and clearances but it was like trying to stop a tidal wave with a bin lid at some stages of the game.

Lloyd Kelly – 6. Not really the game to finally put him in at centre-back and ask him to stop one of the most in-form attacks in the league.

Diego Rico – 4. Back in the team and largely terrible. Particularly culpable for leaving a huge gap on Greenwood’s first.

David Brooks – 5. Had no meaningful impact, subbed at the break.

Lewis Cook – 5. Entirely overrun despite plenty of hard work.

Jefferson Lerma – 5. Couldn’t stop United passing it around him. Booked for a pretty bad tackle.

Junior Stanislas – 6. Took his goal superbly, both the dribble and the finish. Created a couple of other moments.

Dominic Solanke – 5. Mostly ran into defenders and held up the ball without looking a threat himself. A 38th Premier League game without a goal for Bournemouth. Didn’t close down Martial for his goal.

Josh King – 6. Decent movement in the channels, nicely struck penalty.
