A look ahead to the game at Old Trafford

Premier League season in numbers

Manchester United secured their highest finish since winning the league in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season with their drab draw at West Ham on Thursday. Second in the league and an FA Cup final to would be a very successful season for most Premier League clubs, but it feels a little disappointing, given how far ahead Manchester City are and that other big rivals Liverpool are in the Champions League final

By the end of the West Ham game Jose Mourinho’s side were time-wasting to secure the draw, which is an indictment in and of itself. They face Watford on the final day with second guaranteed and nothing to play for.

Given Watford’s history, the chances are not good that Javi Gracia is still in charge for the beginning of next season. There will be immense player turnover again, and Watford’s team will likely be reshaped under new management for another relegation scrap. Manchester United may rest players ahead of the FA Cup Final, and thus Watford may have a chance for a first win at Old Trafford since 1978.

Van Aanholt is found in behind, rounds the keeper nicely and manages to squeeze the ball home from an extremely acute angle. It is his last action, too. Pape Souare is back for the first time since his awful crash in 2016, and both players receive loud ovations as the substitution is made.

What a second-half of the season the Scottish left-back has had! Robertson half-volleys home after the ball breaks to him in the box. A Brighton player made a desperate attempt to block the effort on the line but couldn't keep the powerfully struck shot out.

WEST HAM SEAL IT! LANZINI WITH A PEACH! 3-1.

Lovely finish by Manuel Lanzini. He creates a bit of space on his right foot on the left edge of the box and curls one beautifully into the far corner. Lanzini doesn't get a chance for a hat-trick as he is soon substituted. It is a welcome return for Pedro Obiang, who was thought out for the season but will get five minutes today.

What a goal that is from Manchester City! A magnificent Kevin De Bruyne pass frees Jesus, who controls well and heads towards goal. He lifts the bouncing ball over Alex McCarthy and sparks jubilant scenes among players and coaches alike. Southampton won't care, they are staying up!
