Louis van Gaal has blamed lawmakers in Argentina for the delay in Marcos Rojo making his Manchester United debut.

The centre-back was signed for £16m more than a week ago but is yet to make his first appearance for the club.

Rojo travelled to Spain in an attempt to resolve the discrepancy but has now been ruled out of the trip to Burnley, making it three missed matches for the 24-year-old.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the clash at Turf Moor Van Gaal said "it's only a matter of time" before Rojo makes his debut, but bemoaned the hold up.

"I'm manager of the biggest club in the world, but I can't change the law in Argentina! We have to obey the law," he said.

Van Gaal heads into the game still looking for his first competitive win as United boss.

The Dutch coach also confirmed that new £59.7m signing Angel Di Maria, who has been handed the iconic No 7 shirt, will make his debut in the game.

"He has impressed me,". Van Gaal told MUTV.

"The first training session was with all the boys and he was very impressive. The second was a little bit less so but he has to adapt to the culture and the players with whom he shall play.

"It is the other way around also: the Man United players have to adapt to his way of playing. I believe he is ready to play. He is fit enough. He played a match in Madrid and he is ready to play."
