Martinez happy with red card reversal
Wigan striker Conor Sammon will be available to face Stoke City tomorrow after the Football Association rescinded the red card shown in Monday's 5-0 defeat by Manchester United.
Sammon caught Michael Carrick in the face with his left hand and, if he was disappointed to be penalised, that turned to shock when he saw a straight red from the referee, Phil Dowd.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said yesterday: "We thank the panel for their decision, which is the correct one. I am delighted to have Conor available for the next three matches. You need to accept punishment when you do something wrong but this was a normal phase of play where Conor was using his role as a target man. He tried to be big, to hold the ball."
