Neil Warnock appointed Crystal Palace manager: A reunion with Jason Puncheon

The 65-year-old has returned for a second spell at Selhurst Park

Neil Warnock has been appointed as manager of Crystal Palace and with it set up a reunion with Jason Puncheon.

Why is that so awkward?

Last season, the striker missed a penalty during a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. It was a truly spectacular miss - high, wide and possibly still yet to come back to earth.

Warnock, who signed Puncheon on loan for four months whilst manager of QPR, told a radio station: "There's no way I would've trusted him with a penalty. You've got to have somebody a little bit more cool - and he's not like that, Jason.

"He can whack a 35-yard free-kick in here and there but a penalty, with all the pressure on him at a place like White Hart Lane... not in a million years for me."

Puncheon did not take too kindly to Warnock's assessment and wrote on Twitter that while he would accept "banter" and "opinions", wrote: "As a man I will live with that, which is fine, but I will not live with [Warnock's] opinion."

His following tweets saw him hit with a £15,000 fine by the Football Association and warned about his future conduct.

The FA found the former Southampton player had "failed to act in the best interests of the game and/or acted in a manner which was improper and/or used abusive and/or insulting words".

Reports suggest Warnock has already held clear the air talks with Puncheon.
