Newcastle United could face sanctions from the Premier League after a fan from the away end threw a beer bottle that hit Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the neck.

The ball was out of the play and Newcastle had just won a throw-in by the away fans section after a challenge involving Wan-Bissaka when a supporter threw a green bottle that struck the promising full-back in the neck as he turned away.

Alcohol is not even allowed within sight of the football pitch in England by law.

Newcastle’s fans had earlier unfurled a banner calling for Mike Ashley’s departure from the club and sang anti-Ashley songs for much of the afternoon.

Ashley was in attendance at Selhurst Park, his first game since May 2017 when the club were promoted back to the top flight.
