Who ripped the heart out of Newcastle?

Following the confirmation of Newcastle's relegation from the Premier League it's time for questions to be asked about exactly where it went wrong.

The drop to the Championship was sealed in the worst possible way for Newcastle fans - by fierce rivals Sunderland winning to move out of reach before the final day of the season.

Was it Steve McClaren, the manager in charge at the start of the season - or perhaps the people behind his appointment?

Or was it simply the players that were to blame?
