Of course, Crystal Palace will once again look to Wilfried Zaha for inspiration this weekend.

"He is a very important player for us. Every team has players who are important. He is the obvious one to bring forward when it comes to Crystal Palace," Hodgson said.

"He has been scoring goals and his general play has been good. It is important that he produces a good performance, because he can cause major headaches for other teams."

More from the north east now, where Rafael Benitez has declined to comment on Under-23s coach Peter Beardsley's departure from the club following an investigation into allegations of bullying.

He said: "Sorry, but I cannot comment about that."

However, the Spaniard denied that he would follow Beardsley out of the exit door.

"I am happy," he said.

"The first few months we did not do as well as we wanted. But then we promoted at the first attempt was good, we enjoyed it, then to finish 10th was a great achievement.

"Hopefully it is the same this year."

Some news from the West Midlands now, where Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo will welcome back goalkeeper Rui Patricio to face Chelsea on Sunday.

The 31-year-old was replaced by John Ruddy in Saturday's 2-0 win over Cardiff to give him game time before next week's FA Cup quarter-final with Manchester United.

But the Portugal international will be in goal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, boss Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed.

Nuno said: "It was very clear. The decision was made and I was very clear in my intention.

"I was pleased because John performed very well. John was very confident and he was very stable, which is what we were looking for.

"Now we play Chelsea, we focus on this game."

The last time Wolves played Chelsea was a significant moment for Santo this season.

Wolves beat Chelsea 2-1 in December and have lost just four games in the 18 outings since.

They are seventh, 13 points behind their hosts, in the Premier League, with Nuno admitting the victory over Maurizio Sarri's side was a turning point.

"You face such tough opponents so it's very hard because of the challenge, but it's one of the things we're trying to do," he said.

"That (the win over Chelsea) was a very important moment because it ended a very bad moment, a bad run we had.

"It was a turning point in the competition but we know there are always ups and downs.

"When you have something that doesn't work out, it's about bouncing back and recovering and returning to these standards again.

"We made those against Cardiff after a bad performance, so let's sustain that consistency and challenge ourselves on Sunday.

"We don't think about beating them.

"We think about Chelsea and we know what we're going to face - fantastic players, a fantastic manager, ideal football - it's very difficult but we have to try and be focused on what we can do to prevent Chelsea playing.

"When you have the ball you have to play of course. We know how to play."

To Burnley now, and some worrying news for their fans.

Midfielder Steven Defour is unlikely to play again this season after undergoing calf surgery, Clarets boss Sean Dyche has revealed.

Defour's injury-disrupted season has seen him make only nine appearances in all competitions, the most recent coming in the 5-0 FA Cup loss at Manchester City on January 26.

Dyche said of the 30-year-old Belgian: "He's had an operation on his calf basically to release the muscle.

"So he's recovering now. We're very confident that will clear the problem but it is unlikely he is going to get back before the end of the season, which is a bit of a blow."

There's an update on Chelsea's ban from signing players for two transfer windows after being found guilty of breaching rules about signing minors by FIFA, and it isn't good news for the FA Cup holders.

The West London club lodged an appeal to the ban, but FIFA has rejected this.

"We can confirm that the Chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee has rejected the application for provisional measures filed by Chelsea FC in relation to the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee," they said.

↵A day that started with much excitement for Liverpool fans over Alex Olxade-Chamberlain has ended with an earlier than anticipated substitution.

The Ox returned to action today for the U23s, but was substituted on 41 minutes, four minutes sooner than expected.

But it looks like there is no potential injury for Reds fans to worry about.

It's been another busy day at Premier League press conferences today, and so before we leave you today here are some of the news highlights:

Manchester City will be without playmaker Kevin De Bruyne for Saturday's Premier League clash with Watford at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgium international suffered a hamstring injury in last week's victory at Bournemouth and joins midfielder Fernandinho (groin) and defenders Aymeric Laporte (hamstring) and John Stones (groin) on the sidelines.

Midfielder Fabian Delph is back in contention but goalkeeper Claudio Bravo (Achilles) is a long-term casualty.

Pep Guardiola has urged UEFA not to drag out its investigation into alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules by Manchester City.

The European governing body announced on Thursday it had launched a probe following a series of fresh allegations about the Premier League champions in the media.

The claims include allegations that some of City's sponsorship deals were artificially inflated and that the club were deceitful in their accounting procedures.

City have denied the claims and manager Guardiola expressed his confidence in the club.

"I think the club made their statement yesterday, I can't add more than that.

"The club is open, so hopefully it can finish as soon as possible and UEFA can decide what it sees.

"I said last season I trust a lot what the club has done because I know them. Hopefully they can solve it as soon as possible."

Asked further if he was concerned the matter could taint his legacy at the club, Guardiola said: "No, absolutely not."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not concerned by Mohamed Salah's goalscoring form.

The Egyptian is still waiting to score his 50th league goal for the club, but if he manages the feat on Sunday he will equal Alan Shearer's record of achieving it for a single club in 66 matches.

He missed a couple of gilt-edged chances against Everton but Klopp is unconcerned.

"We didn't really speak about it or whatever because it's completely normal," he said.

"Of course, when you are a striker or offensive player and you have chances in the game, you want to score with them in the game - that's clear.

"But as a manager, I'm more than used to that players don't score all the time. That's how it is.

"He has an unbelievable record. His goals brought us where we are - not only (his goals), but it was a big part of it."
