New Manchester City signings have launched their own version of 'Snakes on a Plane'

Raheem Sterling has risked the wrath of both Liverpool and Aston Villa fans after posting a picture of himself and Manchester City team-mate Fabian Delph on Instagram along with two snake emojis.

The most expensive Englishman in the history of the game angered Liverpool fans throughout his final season at Anfield as he pushed for a move from the club, with his agent Aidy Ward tasked with forcing a transfer to a club with more chance of silverware and success.

Sterling eventually ended up at City, who were the only club to make a serious move for the 20-year-old, and the former Premier League champions coughed up an initial £44m which could rise to £49m based on performances.

He was soon joined at the Etihad Stadium by Delph in somewhat bizarre circumstances. After City lodged an official £8m offer, Delph publicly rejected any chance of leaving Villa Park much to the joy of the club’s supporters.

However, just a week later the midfielder performed an incredible U-turn and agreed to join City, with fans flocking to social media to label the former Villa captain a “snake”.

With the pair currently with the England team ahead of Saturday’s 2016 European Championship qualifier in San Marino, Sterling took to Instagram to post a picture alongside Delph.

Though it seems harmless, the addition of two snake emojis – along with one of a plane – will likely enrage fans of their former clubs who were left with a bitter taste in their mouths after their respective exits.

England face San Marino on Saturday at 5pm, before taking on Switzerland at Wembley the following Tuesday.
