Liverpool fans' expectations for next season went up a notch this morning with the confirmation that a deal has been completed for striker Roberto Firmino.

Hoffenheim have agreed to sell the 23-year-old to the Reds following a four-and-a-half-year stint in the Bundesliga for the Brazilian.

A medical will soon be undertaken and a five-year deal rubber stamped, making Firmino the club's second most expensive signing in history.

But Liverpool fans eager to see their latest acquisition in action won't have to wait for the opening game of the season against Stoke, or even the club's pre-season friendlies.

Firmino is currently in action at the Copa America with Brazil and due to star-man Neymar being suspended for the rest of the tournament, has found himself thrust into the limelight.

Liverpool's new player was on target over the weekend in Brazil's 2-1 group stage win against Venezuela, a victory that sealed a place in the quarter-finals.

Firmino is expected to start that match, which is against Paraguay this Saturday. The game, which kicks off at 10.30pm BST, is also expected to see Philippe Coutinho in action, giving Liverpool fans a chance to see the new club team-mates in tandem.
