Southampton vs Liverpool: Premier League as it happened
Goal updates and latest action from the top-flight meeting at St Mary's
Liverpool arrive at St Mary's resembling something akin to Southampton's parent club. So many of the graduates at Saints have ended up at Anfield in recent years and today Virgil van Dijk plays in the centre of Jurgen Klopp's defence, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane also starting and Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana on the bench.
Mauricio Pellegrino – a former Liverpool player himself – will be desperate to build on last week's 3-2 win over West Brom and ride their momentum away from the drop, especially given Saints' run of five away games in their next six Premier League encounters.
However they face a Liverpool side determined to keep up their top-four push and a forward in Mohamed Salah who cannot stop scoring, with plenty of foils around him that will keep Southampton's defence occupied.

60' - James Milner replaces Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for Liverpool.
62' - Oriel Romeu is booked for a late challenge on James Milner.
63' - Gini Wijnaldum, who has never scored an away Premier League goal in 50 appearances, slaps a shot well over the crossbar from the edge of the area.
71' - Roberto Firmino is thwarted from close range by the legs of Alex McCarthy and Mo Salah can only find the side-netting on the follow-up!
That really should've been 3-0 and game over.
72' - Shane Long replaces James Ward-Prowse for Southampton.
76' - Sadio Mane has a chance to make it 3-0 to Liverpool after a neat dummy by Gini Wijnaldum but the Senegal international, with bags of time and space, slices a left-footed shot well wide of the near post.
79' - Adam Lallana replaces Roberto Firmino for Liverpool. A chorus of boos rings around St Mary's.
Lovely reception for a player who devoted eight years of his career to Southampton.
80' - Steven Davis replaces Oriel Romeu for Southampton.
