He was the player challenging Alli as the Tottenham youngster went to ground in the box, and for a moment it looked as though his nightmare cameo was going to end in the ultimate ignominy of a red card.

There will be four minutes of stoppage time to be played before Tottenham cut the gap back to seven points.

What a Sunday! What a weekend!

Tottenham’s title push looked over at 6pm, but three goals in six sensational minutes blew Manchester United away and sent a clear message up the M1 – they are not giving up on the Premier League title just yet.

Earlier in the day, amid emotional scenes at the Stadium of Light, two second half goals from Jamie Vardy had momentarily sent Leicester ten points clear at the summit to leave them on the cusp of one of the most sensational stories sport has even told. 

Spurs may have restored the gap to the seven points difference that bridged them at the start of the weekend, but today’s results have meant the Foxes are guaranteed Champions League football next season no matter what. It is an astonishing achievement in itself.

However, they will want more, and they will take the next step to getting more next weekend when they host West Ham. We’ll be here for all ten Premier League matches that begin with a crucial six-pointer at the bottom between Norwich at Southampton on Saturday afternoon; Samuel Stevens will be the man on hand with the witticisms.
