Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal has spoken of his admiration for Huddersfield Town ahead of their Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, but he rejected the suggestion that coming up against David Wagner would give the game an added edge.

Carvalhal was managing Sheffield Wednesday when he lost to Wagner’s Huddersfield side in a penalty shootout in last season’s Championship play-offs, but he says that will not be a source of inspiration this weekend.

“I am not this kind of person,” Carvalhal said. “I don’t keep things with me to have revenge on someone. It is important for us and we will try to win like we did before, so there is nothing different.”

Saturday’s fixture provides the opportunity for the Terriers to leapfrog their opponents in the Premier League table, with both sides tied on 30 points, though Wagner insists that his focus solely lies with his team and their next game.

“We are focused on ourselves and our performance to try and hit our high standards,” said Wagner. “It makes no sense to think about the next four games. We are in a position where everything is in our hands, one we love to be in.”

The Huddersfield manager also welcomed the news that Aaron Mooy and Elias Kachunga are both back in training, and the return of two key players is something he hopes will add to the atmosphere in the crowd.

“We fight to survive in the Premier League,” Wagner said. “We will need to feel an atmosphere in the stadium that’s ready for that.”
