Fernando Torres, the Chelsea striker, insists he bears no grudges towards those Liverpool fans he expects to abuse him when his new side host his old on Sunday, claiming the Anfield public which once adored him does not know the truth behind his £50m move to Stamford Bridge.

Torres's departure from Merseyside was cloaked in acrimony after the Spanish international submitted a transfer request with just 24 hours of the January transfer window left. The version of events that he forced Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, to sell him at the last minute, though, is one the 27-year-old contests.

"The abuse I will get will be worse than I received at Wembley [playing for Spain last Saturday,]" he said. "The Liverpool fans have only heard that which the club let them hear, and they do not know the real story behind the move."

Meanwhile, former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise has agreed to rejoin the board of Chelsea Pitch Owners, which owns the freehold of Stamford Bridge.
