Tottenham news: Erik Lamela eyes contract extension at White Hart Lane

After Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Kyle Walker were all handed new deals in recent weeks, it seems Lamela is now keen to improve his own contract

Erik Lamela is chasing down a new contract with Tottenham after recently declaring his desire to ‘play for more years in this shirt’.

The 24-year-old joined Spurs in 2013 for a record £25.7m and is believed to be earning £65,000 per week, making him one of the club’s top earners.

After Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Kyle Walker were all handed new deals in recent weeks, it seems Lamela is now keen to improve his own contract.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Lamela insisted he is settled in north London and sees his long-term future at the club.

"I would like to [sign a new deal] because I am very happy here," he said.

"I feel part of this team which is improving. I have a group of excellent team-mates and I feel very good around them.

"It would make me happy to play for more years in this shirt. Will I be the next to sign? Let's hope so. At the moment I am thinking only of playing and about Saturday's game against Leicester."

Defender Jan Vertonghen is also believed to be eyeing a new deal with the club.

But despite the recent flurry in contract extensions within the Tottenham squad, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris revealed last weekend that he was in “no rush” to extend his own contract.
