BT Sport: Tottenham vs Arsenal coverage cuts out in stoppage time and sends Twitter wild

The broadcast was lost in the dying minutes of an entertaining 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal’s armchair supporters were sent into something of tailspin on Saturday afternoon, as BT Sport’s coverage of the north London derby cut out in dying moments.

As both teams searched for a decisive goal with the score at 2-2 in the stoppage time, television screens across the country suddenly went black.

After a few seconds, an apology appeared on screen on behalf of BT, who promised to return to the action as soon as possible.

Images from White Hart Lane without sound appeared a minute or so later. Gradually, the stadium microphones began to pick up the sound of the crowd and the co-commentary feeds returned, but chief commentator Darren Fletcher was not heard again until after the final whistle.

BT Sport anchor Jake Humphrey apologised for the technical errors once coverage had returned to the studio, citing a loss of electrical power as the reason for the outage.

This was later confirmed by a BT spokesperson, who said: "We are sorry for the temporary loss of picture and sound during our broadcast of the Tottenham versus Arsenal match this afternoon. This was due to a loss of power at the stadium and we are continuing to investigate the root cause."

Fortunately for viewers, none of the game’s key moments were missed, but that did not stop them from making light of the matter on social media.
