Arsenal's next manager: The contenders

Unai Emery arrived at Arsenal training this morning as usual only to be informed he was to be sacked.

The Spaniard oversaw a 2-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt last night before the Gunners opted to make a change this morning.

Emery seemingly did not consider his position to be imminently under threat after arriving this morning at London Colney.

The Gunners have indeed made the change though, following rivals Tottenham, who sacked Mauricio Pochettino and drafted in Jose Mourinho.

Freddie Ljungberg, who is the interim head coach now, took training this morning.

“Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand,” Josh Kroenke said in a statement published on the Arsenal website.

“We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success.”

Arsenal have made a disappointing start to the current campaign and are 8th in the Premier League and are on their longest winless streak (seven games) since February 1992.
