Burnley will seek to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they visit West Ham United on Saturday. The Clarets were dogged, but ultimately disappointing, in their home defeat to Manchester United during the week, leaving them two places above the relegation zone.

Despite that, they have won three of the last six in league play and are unlikely to hold too many longer-term fears about the drop - though Sean Dyche will expect more attacking intent from his side in matches such as this one.

It won’t be easy against West Ham, though, with David Moyes’ team having kept clean sheets in back-to-back league games, including the recent 1-0 win over Everton.

Both teams are into the FA Cup fourth round, too, and for West Ham there’s plenty of speculation as to where they might spend money during the January transfer window after concluding the £20 million sale of Sebastien Haller to Ajax. A home victory will temporarily lift Moyes’ side up to eighth in the table, while Burnley could rise to 15th - but only if they rack up the goals as well as the three points, which seems improbable.

Team news

The Hammers have a number of players from the defensive ranks set to miss out. Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski should return, but Ryan Fredericks is a doubt, Issa Diop is coming back from injury, Fabian Balbuena is out and Arthur Masuaka is also injured.

Burnley are likely to again be without Charlie Taylor at full-back, but back-up goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell is the only other injury worry.

Confirmed line-ups

West Ham XI: Fabianski; Coufal, Dawson, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek; Bowen, Benrahma, Fornals; Antonio.

Burnley XI: Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters; Gudmundsson, Westwood, Brownhill, Brady; Wood, Barnes.

Odds

West Ham - 16/19

Draw - 11/4

Burnley - 41/10

Prediction

The Hammers are playing without pressure and might sense an opportunity to go for the kill against a Burnley team with limited attacking intent in midweek, but the Clarets have been slowly improving after a terrible start and the spoils could be shared here. West Ham 1-1 Burnley.
