Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo feared worst for hospitalised Raul Jimenez after head injury against Arsenal

Forward was said to be conscious and responding well to treatment in hospital after clash of heads

Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo said he feared the worst when Raul Jimenez was knocked out early in a 2-1 Premier League victory at Arsenal on Sunday.

Jimenez suffered a nasty clash of heads with Gunners defender David Luiz and received oxygen on the pitch for nearly 10 minutes before being taken off on a stretcher and rushed to hospital. Once there, he underwent scans.

Luiz, meanwhile, needed his head bandaged and continued until half-time, when he was substituted.

Wolves later tweeted that Jimenez was being assessed at a London hospital, although Espirito Santo offered some good news by saying the player was speaking and conscious.

"Raul Jimenez is doing a scan now. He's conscious. He's okay inside the gravity of the problem," the Portuguese coach said.

"You start hearing code red. It's serious. It was a bad moment for everybody. You see panic in their [the medical staff's] eyes and you start thinking: 'How is he?' We are worried.

"He speaks, he's aware. We have to have a proper assessment. He's in good hands."

Wolves captain Conor Coady told Sky Sports: "When it happened, it was something you knew straight away.

"We hope David Luiz is okay as well. It was a horrible clash of heads. This happens in football, but you don't like to see it.

"I think both teams went out and played properly, but it was a tough thing that happened. He's with the right people and that's the most important thing but we just hope and pray that everything's okay.

"I jumped with him and you hear it, and as they dropped... obviously he was on his side and I think it was important we kept him on his side. It's something we never want to see, with one of our team-mates or with anybody.

"We got a fantastic result but the one thing that matters is making sure Raul and David Luiz are okay.

"[Raul] is in the hospital and by all accounts he's awake and breathing. I don't know too much, because I've not been there. The most important thing is we get Raul sorted because it's a massive collision he's had there."

Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock offered his sympathy: "On behalf of the club and myself, we give our best regards to Raul Jimenez. We hope he recovers well. It was a bad incident.

"David Luiz has recovered well. He looked good when I saw him in dressing room."
