Celtic midfielder Stefan Johansen has targeted the Treble after helping Ronny Deila’s side to a first Scottish League Cup success in six years with a comfortable win over 10-man Dundee United at Hampden Park on Sunday.

It was Deila’s first trophy since taking charge of Celtic in the summer, with goals from Kris Commons and James Forrest easing his side to victory.

Commons gave them the lead before Dundee United captain Sean Dillon was sent off 10 minutes into the second half for a dangerous tackle, and Forrest doubled the lead but later missed a penalty.

“It’s fantastic,” Johansen said. “There’s still a long way to go for the Treble but this is the first trophy we can win and to do it today is fantastic.

“Dundee have given us a good game whenever we’ve met them but we controlled the game good and scored two deserved goals.”

Commons, who hit his 11th goal of the season, added: “It’s the first time I’ve got my hands on this trophy in my time at Celtic.

“Once that goal went in it settled our nerves and we dominated the game.

“When you’ve got a captain like Scott [Brown], he’s a natural leader and natural winner. He’s a big, big character in our dressing room as far as team spirit goes. It’s been magic from day one here.”

Rod Stewart handed over the Scottish League Cup trophy to the players of his beloved Celtic. It was their 15th League Cup success. They are also three points clear with a game in hand in the Scottish Premiership, and face Dundee United again in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

“I’m very happy and proud of the boys today,” Deila said. “I am so happy we can experience this.”
