Andrea Pirlo is close to completing a move to New York City FC of Major League Soccer, according to reports in the US.

The 36-year-old Italian legend had been briefly linked with a move to Liverpool earlier this summer, but has been in New York on holiday this week and has held talks with the MLS club, according to NBC Sports.

Pirlo starred for Juventus as they came close to winning the treble last season, before being beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League final.

Former Chelsea and England captain Frank Lampard has already joined New York City FC, as has Spanish World Cup winner David Villa; Lampard could make his debut against Montreal Impact on 13 July.

Pirlo (pictured above watching the New York Yankees) is under contract at Juventus for one more year, but has been linked with a move out of Europe.
