Another day has gone by and Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny is still to be announced as an Arsenal player.

The Egyptian, 23, has been set to leave the Swiss club all week but no one really seems to know when he will actually be unveiled in a red shirt.

On Tuesday, Basel said he could leave the club "in the coming days", while a Basel team-mate wished him well at Arsenal in an erroneous post on social media.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday morning, Wenger admitted that the deal may not be completed until after the weekend.

"Its complicated a little bit," he said. "We work hard on it and I hope in the next two or three days we get to the end of it."

In rather more fanciful news, the Metro report that the Gunners have made a £44.6million bid (converted from €60m, naturally), for Borussia Dortmund hotshot Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabonese striker, 26, has 24 goals in 25 matches this season and is wanted by club's around Europe.

Metro's info is based on a Tweet from an El Confidencial reporter and the news was quickly shot down by the striker, who was speaking after he was named African Player of the Year.

"I don't want to go to Arsenal," Aubameyang said in The Sun. "I won’t leave Dortmund soon."

The Sun also report that Chelsea see midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a potential replacement for Eden Hazard should the Belgian move away from the club this summer. Hazard is linked to both Real Madrid and Manchester United. The paper doesn't name a price but the England midfielder has been linked with the Blues before and was previously a favourite of Jose Mourinho.

The mother of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot was said to be in London on Wednesday to speak to Wenger over a possible deal, as she also acts as his agent.

One player on the way out of the Emirates could be right-back Mathieu Debuchy, who has not been able to get back into the first-team after serious injury because of the emergence of Hector Bellerin.

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde confirmed he had spoken to the Gunners over a move (why Debuchy would join Villa we have no idea).

Watford captain Troy Deeney has completely ruled out a move to north London, saying that although the links were "very flattering", he is happy to stay at Vicarage Road.

Another long term target Victor Wanyama is again linked with a move, this time by the Daily Mirror but Southampton manager Ronald Koeman does not want to sell any more of his best players.
