Arsenal transfer news: Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez says 'it is possible that I stay, it is possible that I leave'

Riyad Mahrez, the Leicester City winger, has branded speculation linking him with Arsenal as “flattering” but hinted he may stay with the Premier League champions.

The French-born Algerian international was voted as the PFA Player of the Year by his peers last season as Leicester surged ahead of their more-fancied rivals to win an English top-flight title for the first time in their 132-year existence.

Speculation has been rife this summer, however, that the bones of Claudio Ranieri’s 5000/1 odds defying troupe could be picked by the game’s richer, more established European super clubs.

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, is currently awaiting a reply from Jamie Vardy after meeting the England striker’s £20m release clause and offering a three-year £120,000-a-week contract with the option for a fourth season.

Leicester are believed to have offered a similarly lucrative contract, worth in the region of £100,000-a-week, to persuade Vardy to stay at the King Power Stadium as they embark on their maiden campaign in the Champions League next season.

But Mahrez, 25, addressed speculation about his own prospective switch away at a Nike event in Paris, saying: “The season went very well. As you know, we have won the league which was very important. It is incredible. It was by far my best season in my career.

“It is flattering to hear [about links to other clubs], as I said nothing is agreed, nothing is done. For the moment I have not made a decision. We will see. It is possible that I stay, it is possible that I leave. We will see.”

Reports suggested on Tuesday morning that Mahrez has also been offered fresh, six-figure terms to remain with the champions.
