Chelsea are reportedly poised to sanction the sale of Oscar to Shanghai SIPG after the Chinese Super League club tabled an offer believed to be in the region of £60m.

With the 25-year-old currently out of favour at Stamford Bridge, the club has formalised its interest in the Brazilian.

Andre Villas-Boas, who is currently in charge at Shanghai SIPG, is known to be an admirer of the player and previously attempted to sign him for Tottenham in the summer of 2012.

Despite rival interest from Guangzhou Evergrande, managed by Luiz Felipe Scolari, Villas-Boas remains confident of landing the player, according to the Guardian.

Having drifted to the periphery of the Chelsea squad in recent months, Oscar has played only 36 minutes this season under manager Antonio Conte.

With the prospect of a fresh start, guaranteed first-team football and a multi-million bumper package, Oscar is believed to be open to the prospect of moving to China.

If the deal is finalised, the Brazilian will become the most expensive player to leave the club since his compatriot David Luiz joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2014 for £40m.

At £60m, Shanghai SIPG’s asking price could simply be too good a deal for the Blues to turn down – especially now that the player has grown somewhat surplus to requirements at the Bridge.

Having initially signed Oscar for £25m from Brazilian club Internacional in 2012, the club would be set to make a handsome profit on the player.

With a profit of £35m, Conte would be handed considerable leeway in January’s transfer market to reinforce his squad as he continues to work for a first Premier League title.

The news will also come as a potential boost to Cesc Fabregas whose future at the side has been called into doubt in recent months.

With Oscar out of the equation, the club would be unwilling to let the Spaniard leave mid-season.

Asked about the future of Fabregas ahead of Wednesday night’s Premier League game against Sunderland, Conte said: “Cesc is an important player for us.

“He played a key match against Manchester City and played very well. In the last match, he came on very well during the game. Tomorrow I have still to decide the starting XI, but Cesc is always a good choice, for me.

"He is an important player and in the squad of Chelsea. Now this is the reality.”
