Chelsea are reported to have turned down a last-minute approach for Diego Costa from the striker’s former club, Atletico Madrid.

According to The Daily Mirror, Atletico offered Jackson Martinez – a player who has interested Chelsea – as part of the deal, which Chelsea immediately rejected.

Costa has had a troubled second season at Stamford Bridge but has returned to form since Jose Mourinho’s departure and has scored six goals in his last six games.

Chelsea appear insistent they will not sell the Spanish striker.

One striker who does appear to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge is Loic Remy. After being widely tipped to join Newcastle United the Frenchman appears instead to be destined for the King Power Stadium and title-chasing Leicester City.

And Leicester are expected to secure Remy’s signing by the end of transfer deadline day, for somewhere in the region of £11m.

John Terry’s exit from Stamford Bridge might not be quite done and dusted despite the centre-back’s revelation yesterday that he has not been offered a new contract.

Terry revealed after the 5-1 win over MK Dons in the FA Cup on Sunday that there was no new deal on the table. However, with a new manager set to take over in the summer logic says things could change, and ESPN today report that Chelsea have not ruled out extending the centre-back’s contract.

Meanwhile, The Sun say Terry’s exit is done and dusted and reported he will head for America’s Major League Soccer during the summer – and a reunion with former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard. The Guardian suggest Terry could be tempted by offers from the Gulf or China.
