Cristiano Ronaldo hs broken his media silence to dismiss reports that he could return to Manchester United this summer and insist that he is happy at Real Madrid.

The future of the Ballon d'Or holder is always the subject of speculation but with the arrival of a new manager in Rafa Benitez, suggestions that he could be squeezed out in order to promote Gareth Bale to the position of head honcho at the Bernabeu have been circulating.

If Ronaldo were to leave Real Madrid the most likely destination is seen to be Manchester United where he spent six successful years before departing for £80m in 2009.

However, Ronaldo has ended his self-imposed media silence to put the record straight.

“I haven’t spoken to the media lately," he told Portuguese newspaper A Bola. "I’ve made an exception for A Bola just to say that the news with the intention of creating a conflict between Real Madrid and I is absolutely false.

“I’m very happy at the world’s biggest and most-supported club and confident that next season will be full of success.

“I repeat once again that I’m at the best club in the world and it’s at the best club in the world where I want to start winning again.

“I’d sincerely ask to stop with the false news and afford me a little peace. Real Madrid and I are very happy with each other.”
