David De Gea latest: 'Life goes on and no one is dying,' says Sergio Ramos after transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid collapses

Two clubs blame each other for failed move

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has offered some advice to Spanish team-mate David De Gea after the collapse of his move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish club blame Manchester United for the deal falling through, insisting that they submitted the correct paperwork as quickly as possible, stating that United delayed in getting it back to them; the Premier League club maintain that they did nothing wrong at all.

De Gea is expected to return to Louis van Gaal's first-team in the next game at home to bitter rivals Liverpool after the international break on 12 September, with the club confident they can patch up any ill feeling.

The goalkeeper, 24, joined his Spanish team-mates in Madrid for their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Macedonia on Tuesday evening.

Ramos, who was linked with a move to United before agreeing a new deal at the Bernabeu, offered advice to De Gea when asked for his thoughts.

"I have not spoken to him and I don't know what his opinion is," said Ramos. "I think life goes on and no one is dying.

"He has to keep working to keep at his level because I think he is a candidate to become one of the best goalkeepers."

Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas would have moved to Old Trafford if the deal had gone through but Ramos is confident that the Costa Rican and deputy Kiko Castilla - Iker Casillas' replacement - will be good enough this season, with De Gea expected to arrive at the club next summer.

"We have two great goalkeepers," added Ramos. "I speak about the players we have here.

"Keylor has to be calm after the love he received from the crowds during the match against Betis (during which he kept a clean sheet and saved a penalty). I can't speak about players that are not part of Real Madrid."
