Edinson Cavani to Manchester United: Paris Saint-Germain striker's father says he could join United or City

The 29-year-old joined the Parisian giants from Napoli and scored the winner against Chelsea in the Champions League

Edinson Cavani’s father has called the Uruguayan’s happiness at Paris Saint-Germain into question and suggested he could join one of the Manchester clubs in future.

The 29-year-old joined the Parisian giants from Napoli in 2013 and scored the winner against Chelsea in the Champions League round-of-16 first-leg clash against Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Cavani has often been forced to play on the flanks to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the Parc des Princes, sparking unrelenting speculation that he may one day leave to become the main man elsewhere.

Speaking to Israeli broadcaster Sport5, the Paris striker’s father, Luis, is quoted as saying: “I want him to win the Champions League, but he has to play for one of the few teams who can do so. You have to go to Barcelona, Real or Manchester, who invest in order to be European champions. It's like with our national team. I always say that even our grandchildren won't see them winning the World Cup.”

In order to lift the Champions League, Cavani Senior believes a switch to either Manchester United or rivals City could prove successful. United are currently six points adrift of the Premier League top four and lost in the round-of-16 Europa League first leg at Danish champions Midtjylland. Louis van Gaal's men know winning the competition with activate a fifth English club being allowed into the European Cup.

City, meanwhile, are set to welcome Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola in the summer in a move which is likely to spark another spending spree at the Etihad.

“PSG can win titles in France," Cavani’s father added. “They are not quick enough or lively enough. They are a slow team. When they play in the Champions League, you can see the problems.

“They will win everything in France, but you have to accept that winning the Champions League will be very difficult.”
