West Ham United are closing in on the loan signing of Fenerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike after the Nigerian’s international club chairman confirmed an agreement has been reached.

Complications were presented by the fact Emenike, who has scored 16 goals in 55 appearances for his parent club, is currently on loan with United Arab Emirates outfit Al Ain.

Slaven Bilic, the Hammers manager, conceded the East London side feared the worst but discussions between all three parties have appeared to lead to a positive result.

Fenerbahce’s chairman Aziz Yildirim is quoted by the Metro as saying: “We’re about to loan Emenike to West Ham United. They will give £760,000 to us for this agreement and they will have the option to purchase him for £8.3m.”

The 28-year-old will provide Bilic with the required cover in attacking positions after Andy Carroll limped out of the side’s win against Bournemouth earlier this month

When quizzed on the subject last week, ahead of the FA Cup fourth round stalemate with Liverpool, the West Ham boss provided some detail on the situation.

“We are still waiting for that, it’s a complicated situation,” he said.

“Al-Ain called me and basically we thought we could do a straight swap with them, but now we are talking to Fenerbahce, and we will see what happens. At one moment it didn’t look good, but in that last couple of days the deal looks pretty much alive.”
