Freddie Ljungberg returns to Arsenal: Arsene Wenger confirms legend back at club managing Under-15s

Ljungberg left the club back in 2006 after a trophy-laden nine years at the Gunners

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg is back at the club, as a coach.

The former Sweden winger, who made 328 appearances for the Gunners between 1998 and 2007, revealed on Twitter yesterday that he was going to coach the Arsenal Under-15s as he aims to gain his coaching license.

“Yes, because he wants to make his [coaching] license,” Wenger confirmed today. “They [aspiring coaches] have to take care of a youth team and we are happy to give him a chance to do his license. [He will be involved with] the under-15s.”

The 38-year-old retired from football in 2012, but did make a brief comeback for Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League last year. He made just four appearances for Mumbai before a persistent back forced him to stop playing.

During his playing days at Arsenal, Ljungberg won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups trophies, scoring a total of 72 goals for the club.
