Granit Xhaka’s move to Arsenal is on the verge of being completed after pictures were leaked of the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder in an Arsenal shirt and outside the club’s London Colney training base, with an announcement expected later this weekend.

23-year-old Xhaka flew in to London on Friday to undergo a medical and finalise a deal with the Gunners, with reports of a £30m move being agreed between the Premier League and Bundesliga clubs.

With fans eager for the club to press on with their transfer business, the pictures will come as a huge relief given that the move appeared to be delayed due to Arsenal haggling over the transfer fee, but those fears appear to have been eased by the Swiss international’s arrival in London.

With Xhaka due to represent Switzerland at the Euro 2016 Championship next month, Arsenal have moved swiftly to secure his signature, and the deal is expected to now be a formality with the club preparing his announcement imminently.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been vocal in his determination to strengthen his squad after enduring a trophyless season, with the Gunners missing out on the Premier League title to Leicester City having suffered an alarming dip in form at the start of 2016.

With Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini all departing the club following the expiry of their contracts, Arsenal are light in midfield, and Wenger’s admission that he will look to sign “two or three players” demonstrated the Frenchman’s eagerness to bring in reinforcements during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal were also linked with Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante, but the move for Xhaka is likely to be the only big-money midfield addition with Wenger also keen to strengthen his attack following a disappointing season from Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.
