Chelsea should prepare for disappointment if they chase Harry Kane in January, said Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.

England striker Kane scored his ninth goal in six matches as Spurs beat Qarabag 1-0 in Azerbaijan on Thursday night and qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

He is one of a number of strikers linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in January.

With Diego Costa struggling, the Spaniard has just seven goals in the past 10 months, Chelsea have been linked with numerous strikers during the transfer window as Jose Mourinho seeks to improve the Blues’ fortunes.

Defending champions Chelsea are in 15th place in the Premier League and face rivals Spurs at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

But Pochettino says the Blues should prepare to be let down if they bid for the 22-year-old.

"I am happy that a big club want our player - this is because they show they are a top player with top performances. It is good when they are linked.

"But Harry, like Hugo [Lloris], wants to stay here. He is one of the best players and he is very happy.

"He wants to grow up with us and try the next few years to try for the top four and win titles with Tottenham. This is his challenge."

The Blues are also linked with a £20million move for Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele
