West Ham are interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Havard Nordtveit, manager Slaven Bilic has confirmed.

Nordtveit was a former Arsenal youth prospect who captained the reserve team, but never played a competitive game for the Gunners.

After three separate loan spells, at Salamanca, Lillestrom and FC Nuremberg, the defensive midfielder moved to Monchengladbach on a permanent deal in 2011.

Speaking about the 25 year-old, Hammers manager Bilic said: "Many clubs are interested in Nordtveit and monitoring the situation," he said. "We are also interested in him."

Bilic also spoke about making Manuel Lanzini's loan from UAE club Al Jazira permanent, saying that he wants to keep the 23-year-old Argentine at the club "for a long, long time".

"With Manuel Lanzini the situation is clear," he said. "He came on loan and the option [to buy] is there, so we want him in the club for a long, long time."
