Kevin De Bruyne to Manchester City: £58m deal hits the rocks as Wolfsburg admits they're 'in no rush' to sell former Chelsea midfielder

De Bruyne had been expected to undergo a medical today but Wolfsburg's latest declaration suggests move may be in doubt

Manchester City's anticipated £58m move for Kevin De Bruyne has hit the rocks after Wolfsburg admitted they are in "no rush" to sell the midfielder despite huge interest in him.

24-year-old De Bruyne is subject of intense transfer interest from City as well as German champions Bayern Munich, although the Bundesliga champions want to delay a move until the end of the season rather than secure his signature immediately.

That prompted City to launch their bid, believed to be £58m, in a move that would see the former Chelsea midfielder become the second most expensive signing in British history.

However, Wolfsburg’s sporting director Klaus Allofs has spoken out today to confirm that no deal is in place and stressed that the club will not be forced into selling their prize asset despite the transfer window closing at 6pm next Tuesday.

Allofs said: "We are not in any rush to get this [transfer] through.

"If our expectations are not fulfilled, Kevin will be playing for Wolfsburg this season, and I wouldn't mind that."

It’s expected that De Bruyne will be a part of Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking’s squad for Friday’s Bundesliga match against Schalke. It was expected that a medical would go through at City today, but these plans now appear to have been shelved until the weekend.

De Bruyne left Chelsea last January after a loan spell with Werder Bremen, and after having made just nine appearances in total for the Blues – three of which came in the Premier League – completed an £18m transfer to Wolsfburg to end his nightmare at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgium international went about rebuilding his reputation immediately and after netting 10 goals and laying on 20 assists in 2014/15, he was named Bundesliga Player for the Season last time out.
