Jurgen Klopp’s first signing as Liverpool manager could be a blast from the past for the club’s supporters after he was linked with a move for the former Reds midfielder Nuri Sahin.

The 27-year-old Turkey international is currently playing for Klopp’s former side Borussia Dortmund, but he spent a season on loan at Anfield in 2012 after failing to break into the Real Madrid first team during an ill-fated spell in Spain.

Sahin failed to impress under Brendan Rodgers though and his loan spell was cut short in January of 2013 when he return to Dortmund before going on to make it a permanent move back to Germany.

However, Sahin has played a minute of competitive football since Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Schalke last February and with the midfielder out-of-favour at the Signal Iduna Park, Klopp is being linked with a January move for him.

According to Italian newspaper Calciomercato, Klopp is looking into the possibility of giving Sahin a second chance at Anfield, and believes that the player would be happy to return to the Premier League given his strong relationship with the manager.

Sahin is contracted to the Bundesliga club until 2018 but the club are believed to be willing to part ways with the midfielder, but he has missed a large chunk of 2015 due to a serious knee injury suffered last season.

I hope he will not lose faith. We are waiting for Nuri

Dortmund are determined to stand by him with Klopp’s replacement, Thomas Tuchel, insisting that he will be given time to recover after suffering a setback in September.Tuchel said earlier this season: "Nuri Sahin had a little setback. So his return will be delayed for even longer.

"I hope he will not lose faith. We are waiting for Nuri and will give him all the time he needs [to get fit]."
