The Reds are hoping to bolster their Champions League-winning squad this summer

Liverpool could miss out on Matthijs De Ligt to Paris Saint-Germain.

The French champions are offering the Ajax captain the biggest financial package, and are increasingly hopeful of gazumping every other interested club to a deal.

Barcelona have been the 19-year-old’s preference in terms of pure football, and Manchester United were willing to offer the highest wage with a deal of £350,000 a week while Liverpool have also been linked, but sources say the French champions have gone higher as regards United's offer.

Barcelona have not yet given up hope, but it is felt by those close to the situation that the French club are now leading the race.

The Reds are also being touted as “favourites” to sign coveted Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to reports in Portugal.

Fernandes impressed in the Nations League final last night and has attracted interest from a hoard of European clubs, including Premier League champions Manchester City.

Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, who scored 22 goals and added a further 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season, is thought to be top of the Reds’ transfer shortlist.

A move for the 24-year-old Ivorian could see them splash out as much as £59m with Bayern Munich also said to be interested.

Benfica's David Taveres could also be an option as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his ranks.

Portuguese paper O Jogo report that the Reds boss was impressed with the B team player when they played against them in a behind-closed-doors friendly ahead of the Champions League final.

Should Klopp choose not to dip his toe in the market the Liverpool Echo report he has a Plan B.

That would include Harry Wilson, who is being chased by a number of Premier League and Championship teams this summer, being given a chance to win a spot in the first team squad for next season.

Another youngster who could stick around is Sheyi Ojo with reports suggesting the 21-year-old will pen a new five-year deal once a loan move away is agreed.
