Loris Karius has arrived on Merseyside ahead of completing his £4.7million move to Liverpool.

The 22-year-old Mainz goalkeeper will, according to the Liverpool Echo, undergo a medical at Melwood, the club’s training ground, in the next 24 hours.

Karius will become Jürgen Klopp’s third signing since his appointment as Liverpool manager, with Marko Grujic and Joel Matip to join in the summer.

Klopp, who spent seven years in charge of Mainz between 2001 and 2008, is keen to provide competition for current first-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet’s place in the starting line-up has been called into question this season. The Belgium international has a tendency to make costly mistakes.

Karius, a former Manchester City youth player, shares an agent with Mario Gotze, the Bayern Munich midfielder who is also being targeted by Liverpool.

Mahmoud Dahoud, the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, and Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell are also believed to be attracting interest from the Merseyside club.
