Liverpool are preparing an offer for Fulham teenager Patrick Roberts, according to reports.

Roberts, 17, is widely thought of as one of the best young English players in football and made his Premier League debut at the end of last season; he has also played in both of Fulham's Championship matches so far this season.

The winger is also attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, but Liverpool are readying a formal bid, according to goal.com.

Liverpool are willing to send the player back to Fulham on loan, the website says, with Felix Magath chasing an instant return to the Premier League after relegation last season.

Brendan Rodgers hopes he can convince Roberts to pick the Reds and will point to the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jon Flanagan, Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge as young players he has helped develop.

Roberts is said to be a Liverpool fan, with his parents from the area.

The youngster, who has represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level, shot to prominence last season with a series of eye-catching performances in the FA Youth Cup. Fulham eventually reached the final, playing local rivals Chelsea, but were beaten by the Blues 7-6 on aggregate; Roberts scored in the second leg.

He also helped England Under-17s win the European Championships in May.
