Manchester City are plotting a world-record busting bid for Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo next summer.

The Premier League champions have had to be more prudent in recent months after falling foul to financial restrictions - but now appear ready to splash the cash once more.

City's director of football Txiki Begiristain has also revealed he is in regular touch with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes.

Man City have been handed a huge boost after Pepe revealed his intentions to leave Real Madrid.

According to the Daily Express, the Portuguese defender may join City as soon as this weekend - with the champions unhappy with the return from £31.8m Eliaquim Mangala.

Pepe's contract expires in the height of the summer of 2016 which may convince the Spanish giants to sell now before losing him for free.
