Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named permanent Manchester United manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his Manchester United players that they cannot afford to be complacent following his appointment as manager.

Solskjaer signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford on Thursday to end his impressive caretaker spell in charge and become Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor.

The Norwegian walked into a club 11 points adrift of the top four but has since resurrected United’s fortunes, giving them a realistic hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

A famous comeback win against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month has also set up a quarter-final against Barcelona in this season’s edition of the competition.

The players who laboured under Mourinho have responded well to Solskjaer’s methods thus far, but the United manager wants to see the same levels of performance maintained for the remainder of the season.

“Players who get complacent never last at this club. Managers are same,” Solskjaer said at his unveiling at Old Trafford on Thursday.

“I can't rest on now I've got a job. We’re looking forward, we’ve got to work harder. I've got some targets.

“I would want Man United team that was one of the hardest working teams in the league, so I think the players know my expectations on the future.”
