Antoine Griezmann has separated from his agent in a move that will boost Manchester United’s hopes of signing the Frenchman.

The player’s recent revelation that he rejected the chance to join Paris Saint Germain in the summer will also further excite hopeful fans.

The Atletico Madrid forward is United’s top target for the 2017 summer transfer window and both developments could certainly play into the club’s hands as they chase down the France international.

Speaking about his decision to represent himself, Griezmann told L’Equipe: "From now I'm going to operate without an agent.

“But I will always have the advice of my father and also my mentor, Eric Olhats."

Olhats, a scout for Real Sociedad, discovered Griezmann at a youth tournament in Montpellier.

With Griezmann going it alone, United may feel they now have a better chance of persuading the player to move to Old Trafford - without an agent suggesting him otherwise.

The Premier League side will have also been buoyed by the news that the forward turned down PSG.

When asked by Le Parisien if he was aware of the French club’s interest, Griezmann said: "Yes, but as it was during Euros I told my agent I did not want to listen.

"I told him: 'I do not want you talking to me of Atletico or Paris - I want you to leave me in Clairefontaine [France's training camp].' But I know they were very interested.

"They are a big club that wants to become even bigger. I hope for them that they will get there."

According to reports, Jose Mourinho has fixed his sights firmly on the French star who enjoyed a prolific campaign at Euro 2016.

The 25-year-old was awarded the Golden Boot after finishing the tournament with six goals, three ahead of Silver Boot laureate Cristiano Ronaldo and Bronze Boot winner Olivier Giroud.

Griezmann’s performances, on the back of an impressive season with Atletic Madrid, have garnered interest from a number of Europe’s top clubs but after luring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford, United will be hopeful that they can add the Frenchman to their ranks within the coming year.
