Manchester United are attempting to 'hijack' Chelsea's move for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, according to reports.

The Bosnian, 28, is seen as the perfect Petr Cech replacement by Jose Mourinho after the long-serving stopper moved to Arsenal for £11millon last week.

Chelsea have already made bids of £6m and £8m for Begovic, who has to decide if he wants to be No 2 to Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge. Stoke are said to want £10m plus a player for the deal to happen.

However, according to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United could turn to Begovic as a possible replacement for David De Gea, who seems destined to leave Old Trafford for Real Madrid this summer.

Begovic may well prefer a move to United in that case, as he would become the club's first-choice.
