Manchester United are preparing a sensational £65m summer transfer for unsettled Chelsea star Eden Hazard after admitting defeat in the hunt for Real Madrid's Gareth Bale, according to reports.
The Daily Star have reported today that United have conceded that the will not be able to buy Bale from Real, and Blues forward Hazard is next on their wishlist.
Despite winning the PFA Player of the Year last year, Hazard, like his Chelsea team-mates, has struggled this term, and reports claim that he has already decided to leave the Premier League champions.
A United source was quoted as telling the Star: “The club has to be realistic and realise that signing Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo remains a long shot, which means alternative targets come into the equation.
“Eden Hazard is certainly one of those and the type of player United need if they want to start winning trophies again.”
Earlier reports this week stated that Bale was seeking to leave Real after they sacked manager Rafa Benitez, but new boss Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that he wants Bale to remain at the club, labelling him one of his "key players".
