Manchester United transfers: Mats Hummels 'to hand in' transfer request at Borussia Dortmund at end of the season

Reports in Germany claim Hummels is far from happy

Manchester United have been put on alert after reports that target Mats Hummels will hand in a transfer request at Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

The German defender has been a long-term interest of United, with manager Louis van Gaal an admirer.

Hummels has struggled under new Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel, and Bild have reported that the player is not happy at the Westfalenstadion.

The German World Cup winner is under contract at Dortmund until 2017.

United's hopes of progressing to the Champions League Last 16 hang in the balance after they drew 0-0 with PSV Eindhoven last night. They must defeat Wolfsburg on 8 December in their final group stage game.

Another commanding showing from the centre-back as Smalling defended the area in front of De Gea well while never being afraid to go forward and pick out United's attacking players.

The left-back defended well enough and also got forwards to help United attack when required.

Bastian Schweinsteiger - 7 out of 10

The Germany international worked hard in midfield to protect the back four while also having an early shot on target blocked. United's grip on proceedings in midfield loosened when he was taken off for Fellaini.

Morgan Schneiderlin - 7 out of 10

The midfielder made some key tackles to win back possession in the middle of the park, distributed the ball well to build-up United's attacks and will feel he should have gotten on the scoresheet with his low drive and then his second-half header.

The youngster worked hard for the team and despite showing good link-up play with Rooney, Martial and Memphis, his end product disappointed. He spurned several chances to score - his best perhaps coming with 15 minutes to go when he drove a shot high of the bar. A mixed night for forward.

The United captain started in the space behind Martial, but interchanged with Lingard and the Frenchman to help create chances for his teammates. However, he showed a bit of uncertainty when needed to defend.

Continued his recent improved performances with another good showing against his former side, using his pace on the left flank to combine well with those around him although fans will want to see much more from the winger - including goals.

Played his role in creating a few goal-scoring chances for his teammates, but showed indecisiveness and a lack of finishing touch to convert the several good opportunities he was handed in front of goal.

Marouane Fellaini - 5 out of 10

Endured a disappointing time after being brought on for Schweinsteiger in the second half, allowing Locadia to get a shot in at goal in one instance and failing to control proceedings in the middle of the park - which resulted in PSV taking control of the match in the second period.

Ashley Young - 6 out of 10

Replaced Depay and injected pace and power down the left flank. Helped send crosses into the area, and proved an inspired substitution although he couldn't create the all-important chance for a goal.

"Anything's possible. We can win anywhere," said Van Gaal.

"We have proved that in the Premier League and we must do it in the Champions League.

"We've made it hard for ourselves ahead of the last game but we'll go to Wolfsburg with hope."
