Tottenham Hotspur have warned Manchester United off making a late bid for left-back Danny Rose, according to reports.

Scouts from Old Trafford’s recruitment department have attended Spurs’ last four home games and, according to the Mirror, have picked out the former England U21 international as a potential signing.

Louis van Gaal’s side are suffering from an injury crisis in the full-back positions, with Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia all currently sidelined.

Rose, meanwhile, has been rotated alongside fellow left-back Ben Davies for much of this season, making 16 appearances across all competitions.

Nevertheless, Tottenham are reluctant to let the 25-year-old leave having built a hard-working and harmonious squad at White Hart Lane and are especially unwilling to sell to a rival for Champions League qualification.

If he were to move to Old Trafford, Rose would provide cover for first-choice Shaw, who is out until at least April after suffering a double leg fracture last September.

The former England Under-21 international was called into Roy Hodgson’s senior squad for the first time at the start of last season for a European Championships qualifying match against Switzerland.
