Manchester United may be about to step up their transfer window activity by hijacking Leicester City’s attempts to sign Ahmed Musa.

The CSKA Moscow and Nigerian international striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League since the start of the month, and the Foxes are believed to have seen their initial £15.1million bid rejected.

According to the Daily Express, the Russian club are holding out for around £19million, and United have now entered the race for the 23-year-old forward.

Palermo’s Franco Vazquez is another new name being linked with Old Trafford.

The Sun report that United manager Louis van Gaal is keen to add to his ranks, with the likes of Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera under-performing in the attacking midfield role.

The Italian international has scored three times in Serie A this season and notched 10 for the Sicilian side last term.

A late swoop for Maquinhos is also on the cards, according to The Sun.

The Paris Saint-Germain centre-half has spent a lot of time on the sidelines this season, watching on as David Luiz and Thiago Silva swat opponents away in Ligue 1.

Barcelona are also monitoring the player’s situation but United apparently remain in pole position.

United’s interest in Sadio Mane has been public for some time but, according to the Brentwood Gazette, they could soon be gazumped by an unlikely rival.

West Ham United are prepared to spend big before they move to the Olympic Stadium and have earmarked the Senegalese forward as a potential marquee signing.

Slaven Bilic is apparently confident that, if he can take the Hammers into the top four and the Champions League, the 23-year-old will fancy making the switch to east London.

Finally, Guillermo Varela won’t be on the move any time soon.

Genoa have been sniffing around the 22-year-old, hoping to take him on loan until the end of the season, but a severe full-back shortage in the club’s first-team squad makes any exit unlikely.

Varela has featured three times this season, with his last appearance coming in the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth last month.
