Arsenal fans will have to wait until next week at the earliest after Petr Cech's medical was delayed.

The Chelsea goalkeeper is expected to complete a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal after a £10.9m deal was agreed between the two clubs, with the Czech Republic international already agreeing personal terms with the Gunners.

Supporters of the north London club were hoping to see Cech unveiled by the end of this week as Arsenal’s newest recruit, but with Cech unable to undergo his medical the deal completion has been postponed until next week.

The 33-year-old has one year remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, but after falling behind Belgian Thibaut Courtois in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order, he was given permission to seek a move to another club.

With his family happily settled in London though, Cech’s options were limited given that only Arsenal and French side Paris Saint-Germain showed genuine interest in him, and the Gunners were always leading the race to sign Cech should the Blues give the green light to strengthen a Premier League rival.

Due to Cech’s 11 years of loyal service to the club since his move from Rennes in 2004, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich personally allowed the goalkeeper to negotiate a move to across London, despite the disbelief of fans that they will oppose Cech next season.

In fact, Cech’s first competitive game, should he sign for Arsenal as expected, will be against Chelsea in the Community Shield on 2 August, and his current team-mate John Terry believes that Cech will be worth a rather worrying “12 to 15 points” extra for Arsenal this season.
