Raheem Sterling to Manchester United: Forward 'considering' move... but Liverpool will never sell to bitter rivals

Unhappy Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling is considering a move to Manchester United, despite the bitter rivalry between the two clubs, according to reports.

Sterling, 20, is unhappy at Anfield and has been linked with numerous clubs in England and Europe, including Manchester United, who made an informal enquiry for him last month.

The Guardian report that Sterling would be "keen to explore" the possibility of joining the club and working under Louis van Gaal, an admirer of Sterling's qualities, although the winger is worried about the rivalry between the clubs.

Despite the cordial relationship between the two clubs at the top level, the Liverpool Echo report that Anfield chiefs will reject any move for Sterling from Manchester United, even if they are set to return with a firmer offer, believed to be around £25million.

No player has moved between the clubs since Phil Chisnall arrived at Anfield in 1964, whilst the last time a player went from Liverpool to Manchester United was Allenby Chilton in 1938.

Sterling has already turned down a £100,000-a-week offer to stay at Liverpool, with United able to offer around £140,000-a-week, state the Guardian.

Fenway Sports Group may well welcome an offer from Manchester United - even if they intend to reject it - as it could help spark a bidding war between other interested parties, including Real Madrid and Manchester City.
