Nani says he has not given up hope of resurrecting his Manchester United career after helping Portugal to a 1-0 victory over Argentina at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Nani claimed his return on loan to Sporting Lisbon had reminded him how much he loves the game and how important it is to play regularly.

“I am very happy how it is going at Sporting. That is what I wanted. I wanted to play more. I wanted to get back to my best and I wanted to enjoy my football,” said the 28-year-old.

“I had to get away from United to achieve this. I saw the opportunities at United were going to be less for me. I had been at Old Trafford for a long time, seven years, and I think I needed a little time away to understand and find my confidence again.”

He added: “It is a possibility that I might come back to United. Why not? It is something that eventually we will have to discuss and see if it is possible. But at the moment I am focused on my job at Sporting Lisbon.”
