Thierry Henry transfer latest: Arsenal legend linked with return to France as PSG and Monaco keen on signing striker

Henry has been linked with both retirement and a return to Arsenal but Gerard Houllier believes he can still gut it at the top of Ligue 1

Thierry Henry could be on his way back to Europe as reports continue to link him with a New York Red Bulls exit, with both Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco believed to be interested in bringing the striker back to France.

The Arsenal legend will be out of contract at the end of the year after a four-year spell with the MLS side, and he could move back to Europe where he spent his career playing for various sides before heading to the United States.

Rumours have been circulating that the 37-year-old could be about to call it a day and retire from the sport, while there have also been links with another move back to Arsenal having already returned in 2012 on a short-term loan.

But according to French newspaper Le10 Sport, Henry is wanted by French league champions PSG as well as close rivals Monaco, where Henry made his professional debut back in 1994 under the guidance of a certain Arsene Wenger.

A move back to his homeland has been talked up by New York’s global head of football Gerard Houllier, with the former Liverpool and Aston Villa manager claiming Henry still has the talent to perform to the highest level in Ligue 1.

“If he has the level to play in Ligue 1? Yes, no problem,” Houllier said when speaking to Le10 Sport.

Houllier added: “So far no decision has been made, either in one direction or the other. Thierry has not decided to end his career.

“We would love to keep it but it will also depend on him. Besides Thierry is in shape, it gives the impression of not growing old because he scores goal on goal.

“If there is another strategy that is to start with another squad, younger as the team gains a bit of experience, I think that Thierry could be part of this adventure.

“But it was confirmed that neither he nor the club had not made ​​a decision.”
